BKK Welcomes Dermot O’Kelly

Making the move from industry back to practice as BKK continues to expand to capitalise on thriving economy

Moving from an accounting practice to industry is very common, the move made in reverse, however, is not so common which is why our new appointment of Dermot O’Kelly as Director, Business Development at BKK is a very exciting development as BKK positions itself for the future in an ever changing market.

Dermot is the first appointment to our senior management team following our expansion as we position ourselves for strategic growth and take on the challenge of competing at a national level.  This expansion strategy is driven by an acute demand in the market for a broader skills band and our continued commitment to seriously interact with clients and non-clients in providing meaningful financial and business solutions with a strengthened focus on supporting ambitious entrepreneurs and CEOs in scaling their business and supporting their finance function.

Dermot is joining us from his senior role as Finance Manager at Amazon Web Services EMEA and previous to that Audit Manager with EY where Dermot managed a significant client portfolio across a broad spectrum of industries including technology, software, manufacturing, freight and logistics, retail, electricity and gas supply, recruitment and hospitality.  Dermot’s choice in making the move back to practice with BKK was fundamentally down to our new style of “accounting practice” being regarded as the ‘go-to’ for entrepreneurs and enterprises who need expertise, honesty, loyalty and a shared sense of belief in their business and also to progress his career with a clear and transparent career path.  Here Dermot shares his main reasons on why he has made the move back to practice.

“Moving from industry to practice gives me the opportunity to continue to develop my technical knowledge, get a broad variety of work and of course the entrepreneurial and commercial aspect.  One of the main reasons in choosing BKK is the brand reputation and the opportunity to impact on clients’ businesses with exciting and challenging work within a culture that values it’s people’s input.  BKK culture is all about relationships, which is all about people.  People join people and I was very much in tune with Seamus’ (Buckley, Chairman BKK) outlook to “do it right and a lot of good things will follow” and his passion and energy in building trusted relationships and going that extra mile.   With the addition of Fiachra (Kirwan, Partner Corporate Finance), as partner in BKK this further cemented the external focus of the practice, with his background and his experience in external CFO roles in companies which will bring significant experience for me.  I am very much looking forward to working with such mentors as John Kiely, John Flynn and Fearghal Collins and the practices’ listing of innovative companies”.

At BKK the firms culture is commercially driven and hands on.  We are professional, ethical and want a team that will bring energy, passion and solutions to clients – even before they realise they need them.  We provide an opportunity to grow due to the high exposure to impact meaningful work through exciting and challenging engagements, while growing relationships.

We understand that mentoring and opportunity are important to people and here at BKK we have no barriers to progression, in fact we welcome it and we understand that work/life balance within an exciting role is really important to people.  That is why we measure ourselves on the value we bring to our clients, not the hours we clock up providing a compliance solution.  At BKK we are about finding solutions not looking backwards.  We are always looking for externally focused problem solvers.

If you are weighing up where you are in your career we are always looking to speak with experienced, commercially aware accountants and non accountants.  Having arranged funding in excess of €50m for a diverse portfolio of clients, we also find ourselves looking to expand our tax with legal and industry exposure.

“Arguably one of the best kept secrets in Munster business, BKK is credited as the hidden hand behind some of the country’s best-known business success stories”
